100X Are You Ready?

  • 100 times more data.
  • Larger, more complex  clinical diagnostic imaging studies.
  • Greater demands on  information infrastructure and integration.

In less than a decade market research suggest a 300 bed hospital with 30 TB of imaging data will experience exponential growth. Conservative estimates put that number by 2020 to be 3 petabytes.

Modalities like functional MRI and advanced oncology treatments will be generating tremendous amounts of data.  Mobile 4D ultrasound, all digital wound care, image guided surgery will contribute. Pathology alone, as it evolves to an all digital state, will generate volumes. Cardiology imaging will grow with its digital advances and uses starting with high field MRA and 128 slice CT, surgical video and more sophisticated hemodynamics and will grow due as the baby boomers become Medicare recipients and live longer. Objects that need storing, relating and integrating like Wellness files, interactive lab, radiology report objects that contain multi-media components for distribution, virtual procedures that  completely replace traditional procedures will all add to the petabyte equation.

Meaningful use takes on a much bigger challenge when patients need access to their “complete” record. Implementing EMRs that actually deliver and manage this data correctly if at all, simply do not exist. The comorbidity rate for the average medicare patient is expected to be twice what is it was in 2002 by 2016. Digital inputs, outputs and care coordination demands will increase accordingly.

Are you ready? We are.
