Problem

  • SILOS. Today’s dynamic healthcare climate challenges our information systems to provide comprehensive clinical data to our healthcare professionals when, where, and how they need it. It is not uncommon to find medical images and other digital clinical data necessary for quality patient care locked away in “departmental silos”.
  • TOO EXPENSIVE. Access to this data is often achieved using expensive PACS workstations or departmental PACS web viewers. Providing access to PACS workstations to all clinical end users is neither cost effective nor scalable. Bandwidth, application “weight” and physician mobility are additional inhibiting factors.
  • LIMITED FUNCTIONALITY. Further exacerbating the situation is the fact that these workstations are system-centric and complete patient record sensitive – they only show imaging studies and provide tools for departmental and partial information. Tools that were once the sole domain of radiology have quickly become the norm for many specialties.
  • INCOMPLETE RECORD. Certain input and output needs are completely unaccounted for. Electronic medical record systems are in reality only portals or master identification mechanisms to see the complete patient care information. EMR systems need a way to view and provide relevant tools to clinically utilize an entire set of complex diagnostic and treatment content if they are to be effective.
